Questionhi, I am about to train a student bout floral arrangement but it is my first time to enter a contest as a coach in this field. i want to know the rules and principles in floral arrangements. Can I have a picture or sample of the floral arrangment. Thank you very much..
AnswerIt would depend on who the show is governed by. NGC (National Garden Club) rules for show exhibits are different from, say, American Rose Society. NGC has a "Handbook for Flower Shows" that is the governing rule book for all exhibiting and is the main text we use when training as judges. The basic principles and elements of floral design (proportion, contrast, rhythm, dominance, color, etc. etc) are listed and described in great detail in this book (which is updated regularly as the rules are updated). It's well worth the $15(?) investment to own a copy. I can forward you photos, but tell me what classes you are entering so that I can send something pertinent to the class itself!
