zucchini

Question
Hi, I live in Durham, NC 27703. I have a question about zucchini turning yellow. This is the first year that we have planted raised beds. In a 4x10 bed we planted one side with yellow summer squash and the other side we planted zucchini.
Both sides have done beautiffuly but on one zucchini plant
the zucchini is yellow sometimes mixed with green. The fruit is healthy and has the same taste as the green on the other plants.
Has it crossed with the squash or is something else going on?
all plants are bearing well, both squash and zucchini and there is nothing unusual about any other plant We have been eating the yellow with no bitterness or any unusual taste but my neighbor is concerned that they may not be safe to eat.

Answer

yellow zucchini
Betty,

There are zucchini varieties that are yellow.  Did you purchase the seeds or save them yourself from last year?  The yellow variety grows yellow fruit, it never is green so if you are getting some green and some yellow from the same plant it probably was a seed that was cross pollinated. Veggies that are cross pollinated are total safe to eat.  Gardening is often full of surprises, so enjoy the yellow/green zucchini.

I always plant yellow variety zucchini in my own garden as I love the taste and it is easy to pick.  Check out the picture I attached.

I hope that helps, if you have any other questions let me know.
