QuestionWe have a small rubarb plant that had one seed stalk which I cut off. We have been told that once a plant goes to seed the rest of the stalks are no good.
Is that true? We have not gotten anything from this plant yet this year. My wife would like to make a stawberry-rubarb pie, and I would like to eat some of it.
Thanks for any help,
Ron
AnswerDear Ron,
I've never heard that before. If the stalks are growing and looking healthy, I'd suggest cutting one and taking a bite. It will be sour, but you can see if tastes like rhubarb. Don't eat the leaves! I can't find anything that says it cannot be eaten after producing seeds.
I hope your wife gets to bake her strawberry-rhubarb pie, soon.
Kind Regards,
KD Liz
