QuestionHi Mike; I live in CA and would like to grow local hybrid tomatoes in a couple of the commercial green boxes available at our nursery. I've had success with them in our former home in NC. My problem is that I have a limited amount of sunshine due to the logistics of the area in relationship to the house. I estimate about 6 hours during the summer months. What would be the minimum amount of sun required to grow tomatoes and some other vegetables with some success?
Thanks,
Frank
AnswerFrank, although you would be able to grow tomatoes in limited sun, your production and fruit size would be substantially less. Ideally, you need a minimum of 8-10 hours of sunlight for a good harvest.
However, since flavor will not be affected, I would still go ahead and plant them. A few less tomatoes that are slightly smaller are still better than none.
Good luck, and have a great weekend.
Mike
