QuestionHi Elyse - I transplanted my tomato seedlings into pots a week ago. However, we are having a sudden cool spell - according to the weather forecast, there will be minimums of 45-50 degrees for the next week. Will the seedlings be alright? I have consdiered taking the containers into the house; however, they are extremely heavy and ungainly. I did not expect this (temps have been reliably at least 55-60 every night for weeks), now I'm worried the seedlings' growth will be impeded.
AnswerWattlegal:
It won't be too cold for the seedlings. Cooler temperatures actually will product hardier growth. When temps below 50 are detrimental is when the plants are ready to set fruit and to ripen fruit, then cooler temperatures would be a problem, but I doubt you have those conditions there by that time.
