Maturing Squash

Question
I have some butternut squash plants with squash in various stages of growing/ripening.  I'll be harvesting some soon.  Is there anything I can do in order to ensure that the younger squash have time to grow and ripen before frost?  Will cutting the plant so it grows no further help?  How long does it take a fruit to grown and ripen?
Thanks!

Answer
Dear Seth,
I don't know your geographic location, but if the squash is already on the plant, chances are it will mature before frost.  Most of the US doesn't see a frost before the first day of Autumn.  Once the squash appears, although it takes longer than zucchini, I believe they can be picked within a month.  I've never actually monitored the time frame.
I wish you well and enjoy your squash.  I just love squash!
Kind Regards,
KD Liz
