replanting tomato plants

Question
I planted 2 cherry tomato plants and one slightly larger variety in a window-type box. For the last few weeks it's become obvious to me that I should have just gotten a few 16"-20"+ containers for my patio instead. At the time, this seemed like a good idea! I thought this was going to work because I've seen successful table height square foot gardens, in the past when my Mother worked in a group home.
My plants are probably 4 feet high, but they are rather thin. They aren't full and the leaves aren't as big as others I've seen. I'm wondering if I can still transplant into larger planters, I'm unsure because they have some flowers and ripening tomatoes on them. Will  transplant help my choking plant?
I'm live in Southern New England.
Thanks!

Answer
Lauren;
You can still transplant them if you protect them from the sun and water them often, but they will be set back. I'm not sure if it's the container that's the problem though. Are they in full sun? It sounds like they are not getting enough, but if they are then it may indeed be overcrowding. You might try just removing the larger plant. Cherry tomatoes can often be allowed to trail. Also, they are smaller plants, so their leaves will be smaller than standard tomatoes.
