QuestionI live in Atlanta Georgia. every year I plant a garden in container pots because I have a small yard and HOA restrictions. This year my peppers bloom, starts to grow a pepper than falls off. I water at leave twice a week because it,S so hot here. I also use miracle grow fertilizer every 10 days. My tomatoes leaves are turning yellow. They do have a few fruit at the bottom, but the top have blooms that seem to dry up before the fruit can grow. Do I have time to correct these problems and get a small harvest? I feel like a failure this year. I,m usually great with the garden.
AnswerJoyce:
You say it is very hot there, that could be the problem. If the temperatures are over 90 during the day, the tomatoes won't set fruit, and it may be causing your peppers to drop prematurely. Are all the tomato leaves turning yellow, or just the bottom ones? If just the bottom, not to worry. If all, it could be either lack of water or too much. Twice a week for pots may not be enough. Don't let the soil dry out completely between watering. Also, you if you can move the pots, try putting the tomatoes in a partly shaded area during the hottest part of the day.
