QuestionI live in central Maine. This was a fairly mild winter. Most of the snow was gone by the end of February and the frost was out of the ground by mid-March. I put in a couple rows of spinach, but don't see it coming up yet. Actually I have seen something coming up, but I'm not sure if it's spinach or grass. It's very sparse.
Would cool weather keep the seeds from germinating? I always thought spinach liked cool weather and could go in as soon as the ground could be worked. Should I just be patient or should I replant?
AnswerJerry:
Have you grown spinach before? It does slightly resemble grass when it emerges, just two slender "leaves" (actually those are the cotyledons, leaves will emerge in a couple of days or so). You will probably see just a few at first and the rest will follow. Be patient.
