QuestionI have been watching a plant that came from no where(other wise I did not plant it)It looks like a yellow crookneck squash,But on the bottom half it is green and striped. It's prefect line between each color. The funny thing I have never planted Squash in my garden. I am in awe. I have small grandchildren, they like to eat out of my garden. I was wondering if it would hurt them to eat this veg.
AnswerCarol:
It could be a squash or it might be a gourd. Are the leaves big, serrated, hairy things, and the plant a vine with thick stems? (Even if you have grown melons or cucumbers, you probably would recognize the vine as a cucurbit).
I'm sure it would be fine to eat if it tastes good. Do you buy compost for the garden? Seed could have come from there, or have been dropped by a bird (or even planted by them).
