QuestionQUESTION: Hi dear,
this year, butternut squash came to me as a wonderful surprise- i swear i only bought a packet of zucchini seed :)
there are quite a lot of flowers, both male and female, but only one female flower is yielding. Most of the baby fruits attached to female (flower)buds turn yellow even BEFORE the flowers fully developed not to mention bloom...
what are the possible causes? should i remove those yellow buds?
Appreciate your help. thank you very much.
ANSWER: Wen:
I would suggest that you let nature take it's course and see what happens. No need to concern yourself with the gender of the plant. The wind, butterflies and bees will do the pollination for you.
Best wishes.

QUESTION: Dear Don,
thanks for your reply.
So, should i water more? the buds are turning yellow and are dropping...is that indication of not enough water?
happy gardening :)
AnswerWen:
We may have a situation called blossom or fruit drop which is normally caused by a varius of some kind. Generally there is no cure for this. However, you might want to discuss this with your local nursery.
In the meantime give you plants plenty of water and organic fertilizer and see if their immune system can be improved.
I know how disappointing situations like this are. I sure hope that your plants can be saved.
Best wishes.
