QuestionI planted some spaghett squash plants and I get nice flowers but then they die off. What am I doing wrong???
AnswerCathy:
I'm sure you are not doing anything wrong. It is still early in the season, at least in some areas. Squash usually produces male flowers first, with the female flowers starting a couple of weeks later. If for some reason the female flowers are not getting pollinated they will just fall off. If you think this may be the problem(no bees around, perhaps), next time you see a new female flower, take a male flower and dust the pollen onto the female one yourself. You can use a paint brush or just bring the flowers together on the plant.
