QuestionThis year is my first seriously trying to grow tomatos. Last year my plants grew very, very tall and had tons of flowers but no tomatoes. Help!! This years plants are beautiful. Very full and they are beginning to produce tiny tomatoes. I'm concerned because I'm not sure about pruning and I don't want to make too many avoidable mistakes. When do I prune, what do I prune how do I tell the difference? Thank you for your help.

AnswerLynda:
There is no need to prune you tomatoes. Some people do, but it is not necessary. Did you by any chance fertilize your plants last year? Too much nitrogen will give you all foliage and no fruit, which is what it sounds like happened.
If you want to prune, the idea is to cut back to one or two main stems, and to limit the number of fruit clusters on those.
