Habanero Seeds

Question
I have planted my Habanero seeds in 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" containers and the weather has not been great.  I started them last Saturday and the weather, as you know has been overcast and in the 50's and 40's.  Today the weather reached well above 70.  How long should I wait to expect to see the sprouts?  The package I bought says 6-8 days for germination, does that mean the sprout will come up by those specified days? I also planted the habanero seeds an inch deep.  Will that affect germination time?

Answer
Dear Michael Dickson,
From the time of germination to actually seeing the sprouts is about a 10 day to 2 week span.  Sometimes a little less, but that's a reasonable expectation.  An inch may be a little deep, but I think you will still see sprouts fairly soon.  I don't think germination is dependent upon the depth, but once it begins to shoot upward, the sprout needs to reach sunlight fairly quickly for photosynthesis to take place.  I don't usually raise habaneros, but I do raise other peppers, and usually plant them about a half inch deep.
I wish you well and happy gardening.
Kind Regards,
KD
