Jalapeno concern

Question
Hi Don,

i am growing a Jalapeno pepper in a large pot.
The plant is currently about 6-8 inches tall with plenty of foliage.

about two days ago, however, i noticed a section of the stem is beginning to turn black. This is isolated to the upper area where stems are branching out from the main stem. (smaller black areas can be seen near each of the other stem joins).

the leaves are perfectly green and look fantastic, and the whole lower-portion of the jalapeno stem appears fine.

just wondering if you knew what may be causing this black stem patch on my plant?

thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

Answer
Aaron:

The black stem is most likely caused from a fungus. If you can buy a general purpose fungicide and spray the plant it might kill the fungus.

I have had this experience before but it did not seem to effect the plant seriously.

Best wishes.

Don
