Questionthis past spring i planted some asparagus (I'm in Michigan). 6 of the 8 bulbs came up (3 to 11 shoots each) and i now have fern looking plants, turning brown. I've read i should either cut them to the ground after the 1st freeze and i read i should not cut them the 1st year. help
AnswerDear Steve,
I have also read both. I did not cut mine back after the first frost, but I did cut them at some point before spring, and I didn't harvest until the 3rd year, and it seems to have worked out well. Once the frost occurs, there is no more growth in the plant above the ground, so once they are completely brown, I cut them at some point.
Hope this helps.
Kind Regards,
Kindred
