Pumkins

Question
QUESTION: we have a few pumpkins' growing one is VERY BIG there are about 4 more big ones some are being to turn we have some thing that is eating away at them and be for we lose them all can we pick them and will they still turn all orange

ANSWER: Dear Diane,
They should turn orange, but they will not get any larger once they are picked.  You might try scattering human hair around on the ground and on the foliage.(just what's in the hairbrush or after a trim)  Sometimes red pepper works also, but if it doesn't stop your nibbler, they'll ruin your pumpkins.

QUESTION: Hi....frist i want to say thank you for help we will put them in the sun... now the next thing is how do you keep SQUIRREL'S out of the garden they ate all of our corn and a lot of our Veg. we lost just about the whole garden cause of them they are the ones that wear eating the pumokines they got about 6 of them my Husband caugh about 25 of them in a heart trap and took them for a ride and let them go but it was a little late

Answer
Hi Diane,
Squirrels can be a real nuisance.  Sometimes a cat or dog can help the problem, but I don't know your circumstances, so I have a few quieter ideas that don't require feeding or leashes.  Sometimes human hair, just from a hair cut or even cleaning the brush, scattered at the edge of the garden or around the plants is helpful.  Another idea is ground red pepper sprinkled generously on the leaves and produce.  It washes off and won't affect the flavor of the vegetables when harvesting, but it does affect the flavor for the little garden nibblers.
