QuestionI have a problem with bugs eating the turnips. Not the plants but the actually turnips...who do i keep the bugs from eating them??
AnswerCaitlyn, your turnips are most likely being infested by the vegetable weevil. They look much like a beetle but are a grayish-brown. They live below the surface and feed off root crops, such as turnips and carrots.
My advice would be to treat the soil with a rotenone powder. This is an organic control that comes in both powder and liquid forms. Just spread the powder according to the instructions on the package. Although the product will begin working immediately, you may have to apply it 2 or 3 times every 10 days if the problem persists.
Next year, you should rotate the crop to another bed or at least 15 feet away from the current location. This is usually a good practice anyway and also helps prevent disease.
Note: You can purchase rotenone at your local garden center or through an on-line organic retailer such as Gardens Alive or Planet Natural.
I hope this answered your question. Good luck, and please write again if I can ever be of assistance.

Mike
