squash problems

Question
My daughter and I planted a small garden.  We have four kinds of squash, zuccini, yellow neck, acorn and winter squash.  They are loaded with blooms, but no fruit ever develops, the blooms just fall off and leave a bare stem.  We have had lots of rain and wonder if this could be the problem.  We have grown vegetable gardens in the past, but this is a new location, but were shocked because squash are always the easiest vegetable to grow.

We are anxious to find out the reason and hope you can give us some answers.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Dear Ina Bell:

Sorry to hear about your bad look with the 4 kinds of squash. The heavy rain contributes to fungus growth. Most likely the fungus is responsible or the blossom drop.

Go to your local nursery and ask for a good general purpose fungicide and spray your plants good. Wait a week and spray again.

Blossom drop is a common problem in gardens with many vegetables.

Please let me know what your results are.

Best wishes for a fast recovery of your plants.
