QuestionIs it a good idea to add Epson salts, egg shells and coffee grinds to my cuke and tomato plants. How many cucumbers will I get from one plant.I was advised to clip the leaves on my tomato plants to clear the area for new tomatoes. So far I have planted 5 tomato plants in containers with 67 green tomatoes and 12 wannabees. My cukes have only yielded 4 so far. I have one container for cucumber plant. I put one cucumber plant in 3 of the tomato containers. I live in NE lakes region of NH and we have had tons of rain. will this delay my tomatoes from turning red? Any and all advice will be appreciated so much.

AnswerRoberta:
Non of the ingredients that you have mentioned have plant food value. Give you plants some good organic fertilizer around the roots and water it in.
I would not clip the leaves on the tomato plants except the dead ones.
You should always use new soil in the pots when you plant new plants. This helps get rid of fungus.
Heavy rain is not good for these plants and you may in fact see a delay in fruit production.
Be patient and ask for some sunshine.
Best wishes.
