QuestionI live in northern Alabama,I have pepper that don't seem to be blooming but still seem to grow. The leaves are somewhat green and kinda of shriveled but not dead and some brown spots on some all to be on just the bell and not the others such as the cowhorn or bannana or tabasco and I have yellow green red and orange and all are not doing well.Seems to be just the bell variety that isn't doing well. They are planted properly and are watered once a week.I have recently put Epsom salt and even sprinkled fertilizer 6" from the bed before the last watering. Can I save my plants?
AnswerMike:
I wish I were in northern Alabama where I grew up in Gadsden and Boaz.
1. Check the leaves carefully on the inside to see if their are any mites. If you see mites spray them with friendly Sevin.
2. Recommend that you not use Epsom salt.
3. The fertilizer that you have applied should be mixed with the soil around the roots and slowly watered in. Watering once per week is enough.
4. I am not sure if there is a fungus.
5. Peppers are susceptible to nematodes and other root bacteria and fungus.
6. Now in northern Alabama it is getting hot and the peppers don't like a lot of hot weather.
Please keep in touch and let me know how the plants develop.
Best wishes.
