QuestionWE are wandering if you can help us make a list of types of vegetables will grow in Gulfport,MS this coming July I do belive we are in zone seven and so far this year everything we have grown has done ok or better but we want to keep growing for the remainder of the season but we dont know what to plant thank you for your help
AnswerPerry:
I wish I was in Gulport. I used to stay there at the Broadwater Beach Hotel when we were activating the NASA facility.
Regarding a second garden crop you have the following to deal with:
Hot weather and hurricanes. There fore we need to concentrate on those vegetables that are hearty.
I suggest that you consider, string beans, sqwash, cucumbers. If you can get some plants started quickly you should be able to grow, cayanne peppers and Better Boy tomatoes. They tomatoes and peppers need to covered with 50% plastic screen until the plants are about 10-12 inches tall then you can give them full sun light.
Remember, water depletes fertilizer quickly so feed them enough to keep strong.
Please let me know how you make out.
Best wishes and good growing.
