QuestionHi, I live in the desert south west (New Mexico) and the ground is very sandy and very hard for plants to take root. This my first time at gardening (I want to grow lots of veggies and to be honest I need some guidance and down to earth (no pun intended) advice and guidance. I want to grow tomatoes, peppers, squash, all sorts of greens & carrots. I look forward to hearing from you thanks,
Jim
AnswerJim:
The best advice I can give you for this type of soil is to mix a lot of mulch and peat moss to loosen it up and retain the water. Use a good grade 3-3-3 of organic fertilizer in your planting. Try to purchase plants rather than seeds for transplanting as the season is moving along.
Best wishes.
