QuestionDear Kindred, my 4 year old asked if we can grow tomatoes...and I'm giving it a shot. We have 2 huge pots with 2 different types. Late April planting. I'm watering every day and giving them as much sun as I can and even feeding them with tomato food. Tons of leaves have formed and I recently read online that the leaves can be the enemy of good circulation etc. and that you should pluck off all but around 4-5. What would be your advice for a new farmer? Thanks for volunteering.

AnswerDear Skip,
I've heard both schools of thought regarding the leaves. I never pluck the leaves, but I only use natural organic fertilizer aka manure, and avoid the prepared plant foods, as they frequently feed the leaves more than the produce.
I wish you and your son much success in your farming endeavor!
Kind Regards,
Kindred
