QuestionMy husband and I seem to have a problem with our yellow squash plants. We live in North Central Florida and have grown our plants from seed. They have the most beautiful green leaves and yellow blossoms. When the fruit sets and reaches about 1 1/2 inches in length, they shrivel and rot. We end up with very little produce. We don't seem to be overwatering or underwatering and we fertilize every two to three weeks. The other vegetables in the raised bed gardens seem to be doing great. We even used a store bought soil test kit and treated the soil accordingly. Any suggestions?
AnswerDenise:
I am not sure what your problem is. However, fruit flies will lay their eggs on squash fruit, the eggs will hatch and the small worm will make it's way into the fruit. Open one and see if there is a worm inside. Yoou will see just a small indent on the outside of the squash.
Seems like all the other things you are doing is correct.
Sorry I could not be of more help.
Best wishes.
