Tomato growth on young plants

Question
I have potted tomato plants and the plants are still young but beginning to produce fruit.  I have a plant that is 6-7" in height with 6 tomatoes growing and 10 additional blooms. Is it a good idea to let the fruit mature or to clip them off the plant and allow it to grow stronger first?

Answer
Rose, it is highly unusual for a plant that size to start producing fruit. At this stage, it is too young to sustain the fruit and still maintain enough energy to grow into a stocky plant. I would definitely remove the blooms and any fruit at this time. Doing so will strengthen the plant for a great harvest in early summer.

Good luck, and please write again if you ever need assistance.

Regards,

Mike
