Jalapeno Seed Starting

Question
A Military Officer friend of my has a brother that tests plants/seeds for commercial growers or something like that. Anyway she has been transfered and I have lost communication with her brother.  He gave me a test Jalapeno plant that produces the hottest Jalapeno's we have ever tasted. The plant is a bit puney, however it produces alot. He gave me 3 plants, One I lost to a big green worm. The second I lost to the south Texas drought. However, the third is doing fine. I have it in a pot in the full sun, it has good drainage with a resevoir of water in the pot. I would love to take one of the Jalapeno's and dry out the seeds and plant them to grow another plant. My intention is to fill out the pot with more of the same plant. I have no idea what kind of jalapeno's they are. Can this be done? If so how and what can I do?

Answer
Karen:

There is no way for me to know what type of plant you have.

You can save seeds after the peppers turn completly red then remove the seeds and let the sun dry them good.

A better solution would be to buy a small pack of seeds that have been treated so you would have a better chance.

Worms and mites are a problem with jalapenos and they have to be looked after.

Good luck.
