QuestionHello,
I've searched the net for a couple days now and can not find an answer for my problem, so I decided to try here. I am growing Bell Peppers indoors. About 2 weeks ago I transplanted the seedlings into larger pots ( I use small square tupperware to start and transplant into Folgers 32oz plastic cans, about the equivalent to a 9 inch pot). Two or three days ago I noticed what seemed to be roots growing out of the stem just above the soil ( a sixteenth of an inch about). From all accounts I have read, pepper plants are not supposed to be able to root out their stems as Tomatoes do. The only other thing I could think of is it might be a mold of some type, but it really does look like roots. In all I have 3 pepper plants and 4 seedlings on the way. of the 3 mature plants, 2 seem to have this predicament. Please let me know what is going on here. Thanks and sorry for the length of this question, plead for help.
Jason
AnswerDear Jason,
It sounds like a depth and drainage problem to me. Even though the coffee cans are big enough around, they may not be deep enough, and if there is no gravel or sand and there are no holes in the bottom, it may indeed be mold.
I recommend better drainage and you may not need different pots.
Kind Regards,
Kindred
