QuestionI started a vegetable garden this past summer in my backyard right next to the house foundation. Someone mentioned to me that there may be some health related concerns since I am planting so close to the poured cement foundation. Do you know if this is the case or is this just a minor concern? I have very little space in my backyard so I can't really move it that much further away from the house. thanks for you help.
Regards,
Stephanie
AnswerStephanie, from my experience, this should not be an issue. I know many gardeners who have their garden bed next to their patio or home foundation. The only material I warn against is treated lumber for those using raised beds. Some treated lumbers and railroad ties use arsenic as a preservative. But I know of no harmful chemicals that leech from cement.
I hope this answered your question. Please write again if I can ever be of assistance.

Mike
