QuestionOur plants are out of control, we pick every other day when they reach about 8 or 9 inches. The leaves are so large they are about to grow over the fence. I keep telling my husband to clip the leaves but he says it will stop them from growing. Please advise?
AnswerDear Jackie,
I hear you! It's an abundant year for zucchini. Rather than stop the plants, I would find ways to preserve it. We've gotten a bit creative this year ourselves, and we're giving it away, also. I blanch and freeze thin slices in zippered baggies. I also grate it in the blender and it's wonderful for zucchini bread in the cooler months. My husband and I enjoy it on the grill. I slice it about 1/2 thick brush olive oil with garlic on each side, salt and pepper to taste.
I wouldn't cut it back, the summer heat will soon wither the vines.
Kind Regards,
Kindred
