Carrots; Seed Propagation

Question
is it possible to get seeds from cut carrot tops that you grow in water?

Answer
Joshua, yes it is; but it takes a very long time. Once the carrot has exceeded maturation, it will begin to form a seed pod at the top of the foliage. This may take months. Once the seed pod is fully ripe, take the seeds and place them in a paper bag for several days to dry. You can then remove the seeds, place them in the back of the refrigerator in a seal proof plastic container, and allow them to stay dormant for at least 4 months. The chill from the refrigerator will simulate winter conditions. You can then plant the seeds next spring. Just be careful, because carrot seeds are extremely small.

Good luck, and please write again if I can ever be of assistance.

Regards,

Mike
