QuestionMy vege garden reads #8 on ph tests.
I sprinkled garden sulfur on the surface; about 1tsp per 10" square. Most plants look fine; peppers look wilted. Other plants the winter squash around them seem fine...for now.
Did I burn them?
Can I neutralize the sulphate with wood ash?
learning curves....whew.
AnswerSara, I doubt you burned the roots. The more likely scenario is that the plants went into shock. This can be caused by a sudden change in ph. It is always best to slowly bring down the ph level over a period of several applications rather than all at once.
If you need to neutralize the ph level, you can use lime. But before doing so, I would water the plants deeply, and then monitor them over the next few days. My guess is that they will recover just fine.
I hope this answered your question. Please write again if I can ever be of assistance.

Mike
