silver leaves on butternut squash plants

Question
I have transplanted store bought butternut plants-they were nice and green when bought but now have a silver-white look to the leaves.  They have been planted for a week now.  This is new soil with compost in it.  Freshly tilled.  Live in upstate New York.  Have not had a frost.  Temps have been mid-80's daytime.  Water at night.

Answer
Dear Lori,
When I read your subject line, I immediately thought of the soil.  It may be that, rather than a lack, the soil is a bit rich for your squash plants.  Check drainage and maybe mix in just a bit of sand or increase the soil ratio with the compost.  Are they getting plenty of sunshine?  Often plants that are grown in greenhouses are accumstomed to much more light than natural.  It may simply be transition.
I hope this helps.
Kind Regards,
Kindred
