My vegetable garden

Question
I have planted tomatoes, collards, cucumbers and peppers and they have just wilted and some have died.  I live in Detroit. Did I plant them to soon, seems like I planted them this time last year and had no problem ,but this year I am not having any luck.  This will be my second attempt on planting.  And I am going to go to the nursery to buy a few more plants today and try again.  What seems to be the problem.  I cultivated the dirt, but my plants have just wilted.

Answer
Dear Dianne,
Trusting that your plants have adequate moisture, something else occurred to me.  I have heard about this problem in the past and even experienced it one year. Some herbicides used in a nearby vicinity, can wilt an entire garden or fruit trees.  And many cities are using something called soil sterilizer to control weeds in public walkways and the run-off can be disastrous.
Look around and see if there is any brown grass or foliage nearby.  Chances are, if it is a spray, it won't happen again this season.
I wish you well.
Kind Regards,
Kindred
