Questionso being an organic, indoor farmer, does that mean you don't use artificial light? and in washington, would the less than 12-hours-"on" photoperiod be ample light to grow from a window?
i use some pretty basic lights in my spare room at a 16-on/8 off photoperiod to recreate the light cycle in spring. they are not flourecent. though basic as the lights may be, my cilantro seems to be responding verry well and i have just planted jalapenos.
i was also wondering if my light cycle would need to be reduced to induce blooming for jalapenos and maybe tomatos.
AnswerTim,
I do not count myself to be an organic, "indoor" farmer. I simply have moved a couple of plants indoors before the freeze to maintain them, and I don't know that I will do that again, but at any rate, they are simply in front of a south window. No artificial lights or cycles or anything.
And the jalapenos are doing pretty well and so is the cilantro. We did have a bit of setback with the tomatoes, however; when we lost our electricity for a week in the ice storm and the temperature indoors, dropped drastically. But we had enjoyed a few in the winter, until that time. The plants produce much more slowly and I feel that I have really pushed the natural cycle beyond what would fit my understanding of natural and organic.
Kind Regards,
Kindred
