QuestionSomeone told me that if you planted jalapenos next to tomatoes or cucumbers they would produce spicy tomatoes and so forth. Help me out here, is this correct if so how?
AnswerThis is a myth. I grow my peppers and tomatoes in close proximity and have never experienced a change in the flavor of either vegetable. The only thing that will affect the taste of tomatoes is the ph level of the soil. You want the ph at or just above the neutral level of 7.0. Below 7.0 results in acidic soil which will increase the acidity of the tomatoes. To increase the ph level, add granular lime to the soil.
Good luck, and please write again if I can ever provide assistance.
