transplanting bell peppers from outside to inside

Question
i want to transplant bell peppers and jalepeno peppers from my garden into my house what do i need to do that? I live in Herreid south dakota

Answer
Al, just be sure to get as much of the root ball as possible. The less disturbance to the roots, the better. Otherwise, the plants will go into shock.

Keep in mind, however, that pepper plants are annuals and only produce for a few months, even under optimum conditions. Even if they did produce beyond that period, it is impossible indoors to simulate the conditions they need to stay healthy. Peppers need a minimum of 8 hours of direct sunlight and warm temperatures. This cannot be reproduced in the average home unless you have a heated sun room facing west.

This is not meant to discourage you, since I'm a strong advocate of experimenting with plants. I just wanted to forewarn you that it will not be an easy process.

I hope this answered your question. Please write again if I can ever be of assistance.

Regards,

Mike
