Questioni would like to know how do you know when Jalapeno are ready to pick. I have 2 plants in a big 5 gal. pot sitting on my proch here in eastern north carolina.
AnswerMichael, it really depends on how hot you prefer your peppers. Personally, I wait until I see a slight streak of red or purple running vertically down the jalapenos. This gives them a nice bite, but the heat factor is not overwhelming. If you prefer very hot, allow them to turn a light red all over. If you like mild, pick them when they are about 3" long and still green.
I would recommend you harvest at different stages based on the descriptions I've given you. Try a few at each stage and harvest according to your own personal preferences.
I hope this answered your question. Please write again if I can ever be of assistance.

Mike
