QuestionIs episom salt good or bad for plant growth, does it help increase or decrease plant growth?
AnswerMeaghan, epsom salts are a primary source of magnesium for the garden. Therefore, they do help plants grow bigger and stronger. I spray a solution of 3 tsp. per gallon of water on my roses, annuals, and vegetables once every 14 days.
I have also found epsom salts to prevent blossom-end rot on tomatoes, a common disease in late spring due to the wet weather depleting the soil of calcium and magnesium. I place three tbs. in each planting hole prior to transplanting my tomato seedlings. I then mix it thoroughly with the soil, and then plant the tomatoes 2" deeper than their depth in the seedling pot. Since taking this precaution, I have had no problems with end rot.
I really know of no down side to using epsom salts. Just be careful to follow the solutions I listed above to avoid adding too much salt to the soil. If you use excessive amounts, you could damage the roots of young seedlings.
I hope this answered your question. Have a nice day.

Mike
