indoor tomato

Question
Hi,
Were growing a tomato in the window and it is doing pretty
good. I'm wondering about the light though. We have a grow lite
on it, that comes on in the morning around 5am and
then it's timed to go off when the sun comes up, then it comes
on again when the sun goes down, but goes off about 9pm.
When the days are really cloudy and the sun is not bright, should
we turn the grow lite on?? We live in Northen Nevada and haven't
had to much sun lately. Just wondering if we should just leave it
on all day, weather there is bright sun or not.
Thanks for any help.
Vicki

Answer
Vicki, the plant will need a minimum of 8 hours of direct sunlight per day.  I would not leave this to chance by placing the plant near a window.  Instead, you need to use the grow light full time with the timer.  When using fluorescent lighting, I always recommend 12-14 hours per day.

Good luck, and please write again if I can ever be of assistance.

Regards,

Mike
