QuestionMike I am growning summer(yellow)squash and zuccini squash. I have noticed that the fruit bloom normally comes from the heavy thick stem. My question is that there are blooms with long thin stems them selves but never seem to produce any fruit. Should I pinch these away?
Dennis
AnswerDennis, these are the male blossoms. Do not pinch these since the pollen must be transferred by bees and other insects from these blossoms to the female blossoms. Once spent, they will fall off on their own.
Good luck with your garden the rest of this season.

Mike
