What is causing a zuchinni plant to abort fruit that gets 6" long?

Dear Don:
Do you have lots of fruit bearing on the plant? Not every flower can bear fruit,not every fruit can grow just like fruit trees. They may grow a little bit but because not enough water and nutrition some will die out. I do not have other idea since i never had this situation.
