Questioncan asparagus be grown in pots large enough for the crowns that the vegetable can be harvested?
AnswerKrista, the pot would have to be extremely large to harvest an appreciable amount; at least 16"in diameter.
Asparagus is a perennial and needs a dormant period every winter. It is very difficult to maintain perennials in pots. Also, you will not be able to havest shoots until the second year.
The choice is yours, but if you do have space in your garden, I would reserve at least an 8' by 4' area. This will serve a family of 4 very well for the next several years.
