Question
UnknwnPlant
Hi, Ms. Tabor!
My name is Katrina and about two years ago I took a photo of this unidentified plant because it was aesthetically pleasing. The problem I soon found is that no one is able to identify it although everyone who sees the photo is intrigued by the plant.
I'll be happy to tell you what little I remember but please remember that it was a few years ago so don't hold any of it against me. I can guess that it is a wildflower based on the grass surrounding it but I don't remember seeing any other specimens nearby. Although I live in Illinois, I cannot remember if I was traveling around that time so all I can tell you is that it is a plant found in North America. I hope the photo proves more informative that what little information I could remember!
Any and all information you could give me would be very much appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
Katrina
AnswerHi Katrina,
It looks to me like Dalmation Toadflax (Linaria Genistafolia, or L. Dalmatica). It is an introduced weed primarily in the western US. I'm saying this because the leaves appear fleshy, the veins are indistinct, and they clasp the stem in a whorled pattern. Google images has several pictures and much information on the plant.
I hope the mystery is solved!
Thanks,
Susan
