QuestionI've had this "corn" plant indoors for a good time then decided to put it outdoors. It's been doing very well & recently bloomed a stalk of balled flowers that open up at night & remain closed durung the day. The flowers give off a strong sweet odor that literally fills the backyard & inside of my home. I've been to the local nursery & they have never heard of a cane plant flowering like this. I would like to propogate more plants like this one. Can you identify the plant & tell me how I might do this? Thanks so much, Ginny
AnswerThat doesn't sound like the plant that is usually called a "corn plant" which is a kind of dracaena, so I'm not sure what it might be without a picture.
Most cane-type plants will propagate easily by stem cuttings. Cut sections of cane with at least 2 or three complete nodes and lay them flat in potting soil buried about half deep. Keep them warm and moist in bright light and they should root in a few weeks.
Another way to propagate is air layering. Its a little more work, but has a higher probability of success. See link below.
