QuestionI bought a bush yesterday from a stall on the Ramblas in Barcelona and forgot to ask what it was. At the moment it is about two feet high, has foot long branches covered with mid-green laurel-like leaves and topped with a red flower made up of hundreds of soft red spines. I have sent a poor-quality webcam shot of it which still may prove to be better than my descriptive powers. Thank you for your help.
AnswerHello Jonathan,
Your plant is a member of the genus Callistemon, tear a leaf and if it has a citrus smell the species is citrinus...if not then it is speciosus. The common name is either citrus or showy bottlebrush here in the states.
Thank you for including a picture...makes my job much easier.
Your plant is beautiful...I'm very jealous! We can't grow them where I'm at.
Thank you for your question,
Angie
