Question
Hi
which plant's flower grows before its leaves and why ?
AnswerHello Salman,
There are many plants that flower before the foliage emerges. I couldn't ever begin to name them all, however a few off the top of my head are...Magnolia, Dogwoods, Witch Hazel, Forsythia, Serviceberry, Kerria and most ornamental frowering fruits. This list may be different depending on the area you live.
Flowers initiated by several factors. Geneticaly a plants blooms may be influenced by the tempatures or growing degree days, photoperiod or day lengh, how mature the plant is or if it requires vernalization (cool period).
The purpose of the flower is to reproduce or fertilize the seed, either by attracting insects with nector, smell or color among other ways.
This is a fairly elaberate subject. If I didn't answer what you were really wanting to know please write back.
Thank you for your question,
