QuestionI have had this indoor plant for 11 years and recently it started blooming at the very top. It's a good size plant. It is very stong smelling and sticky to the touch. I was told it was a corn plant by a friend. Why would it bloom after so many years?
Answermost plants will bloom if given the right conditions. it happens very easily in nature and a greenhouse. in a house usually the conditions are not condusive to begin flower production. flowering is the means in which a plant sexually reproduces. we asexually reproduce many plants also. the stamins and pistils in flowers contain the plants DNA. cross-pollination allows the plant to produce a seed w/the combined DNA traits. it's basically what the "birds & the bees are about". obviously conditions became right for the plant to produce flowers for sexual reproduction. if you want to send a digital photo to
[email protected] i could confirm the plants ID.
