QuestionJim, I have a Rain Bird ESP Modular Controller mounted on the side of my house. Mounted below it is a K Rain 1500 Series Pump Start Relays devise. My well has a Sta-Rite 2.0 multi stage deep well jet pump. Joined to this pump is a K Rain 4000 series indexing valve unit. Due to the septic tank and well drilling laws, the Rainbird devise is located too far away from the well/pump for the use of celenoids to be practicle. Therefore, upon the advise of a big box home improvement store employee, I purchased the K Rain indexing valve. Once all the pipes and heads for 3 zones were installed, everything worked fine. I purchased the 4000 series unit, because it has the capability of running the 6 zones I will need. I just finished installing all the pipe and heads for the 4th zone. Three zones run great, but the new 4th zone will not come on unless I manually start it by switching to "test all valves" and then it will run for about 15 minutes. I have been told that I can only run 3 zones, unless I program it to run the 4th zone in the evening. The system starts at 4 AM, runs 59 minutes, is off for 15 minutes so the well can recover, and then the cycles continue. I live one mile from the Gulf in NW Florida, and it gets very hot here. I have unsucessfully tried to figure out how to make the Rain Bird controller run this 4th zone and a 5th and 6th when those lines are installed. I hope you can help me figure this out. Thank you. Sandy
AnswerHi Sandy,
Probably your 6 zones index valve has a 3 zones. Cam. Look at the top if the numbers are 1 to 3, its a 3 zones cam, replace the cam with one 6 zones cam.
Your ESP can be programmed with several start times, old models has 4 and newer has 12. If yours has only 4, do a program A, with only zone 1, assing the watering time and one start time. Repeat this using a second start time, lets say tree times. Set now program B for the remaining 3 zones. Set the start times at different hours.
