QuestionQUESTION: I have a Rain Bird ESP-8Si controller and my system was installed 9 years ago. My initial issue was that the controller showed PR OFF and after replacing the fuse and battery I was able to get the display back to normal. I re-programmed it but the system will not come on. When I turn it on or try the manual override, it shows to come on to the first zone and the clock counts down but nothing happens. I have advanced it to each zone and also just let it run down by itself, both with no luck.
Any suggestions?
ANSWER: Hi Rob.
1- Check the water source, make sure the system is getting water.
2- If you have a master valve make sure it's opening when you start the system.
3- if had an PR error, this could be caused by a faulty solenoid, if it is the one at the master valve no zone will come on.
4- Make sure you have start time, watering time for each zone and days to water.

QUESTION: Thanks for responding. How do I check the master valve to see if it's opening and well as checking the solenoid?
Answer
mastervalve esp 8
Hi Rob,
Attached is a picture showing the master valve port. With a volt meter set it to measure ohms, put the red lead on the mv port and the black lead on the common port, C, the reading should be between 20 and 60 ohms. Outside those values the solenoid should be replaced. The master valve is located above the surface, and looks like the picture attached.
